Many have wondered what the ‘Lynden Bolt – Coming Soon’ signs at 404 Front Street mean exactly.
Some speculated that it could be a sewing shop selling bolts of fabric, while the more creative thinker might have imagined a gun parts store selling rifle bolts. Neither would be correct, as Lynden Bolt is the in-progress retail establishment of Mobile Hardware, Inc. which has sold wholesale fasteners locally for nearly 30 years.
Brothers Jesse and Tim Clark (pictured above) were busy setting up in the store when we dropped by Monday evening. With a friendly and upbeat attitude they explained their specialization in fasteners that other shops in the region don’t carry. Whether it’s a specialty piece for a classic car, or a specialized rivet, odds are good they carry it. Mobile Hardware was founded by their stepfather Robert LeCocq, who ran the business for many years doing deliveries to customers in Whatcom and Skagit counties, with a wholesale warehouse in Ferndale until the recent move. When Rob passed away in August, the family was faced with a decision on how to proceed with the building they’d purchased, and they’re moving ahead with a vision to serve customers for years to come.
While the windows of the building have been covered in paper for months, the lights are on and work is being done to move into the space. The interior is filling up quickly with the thousands of specialty items they carry, and they’re hoping to be open before the end of the year.
While Lynden already has some great local hardware stores, Lynden Bolt will continue to serve their many wholesale customers in the region while offering another option for local customers to find specialty items they may have had to special order previously.
